With the Future of Education project, The Guild provides insights into important questions such as: What should the vision of the European University of the future look like? How can we ensure that universities equip graduates with the skills they need for the future? And what role does the EU have in helping universities to flourish? Through the work of our Education Leads group and publications, we aim to provide a space for dialogue and debate for the sector and feed into ongoing consultations.
The Guild insight paper: Transnational collaboration and mobility in higher education
The latest insight paper launched in June 2023 aims to continue the dialogue between universities and policymakers by exploring the triptych of transnational collaboration, pedagogic innovation and policy implications. It provides an insight in the dominant discourse on transnational collaboration and current mobility models with reference to study abroad and joint study programmes. Enhancing the quality of international collaboration and scalability of learning activities constitute core priorities. The paper was written by Jo Angouri (University of Warwick) and supported by members of The Guild’s Strategic Leads on Education group.
On 24 May, The Guild organised a seminar on transnational collaboration and mobility in higher education as part of its #FutureofEducation series. Building on The Guild’s previous insight paper Reimagining Research-led Education in a Digital Age, with this seminar we explored existing pedagogic/mobility designs and different approaches to transnational education collaboration.
The Guild at DAAD Moving Target Digitalisation 2022: Increasing the Impact of Internationalisation in Higher Education
How do universities respond to the challenge of making mobility more inclusive? Why do we need mobility? How are university alliances rethinking transnational education cooperation? These were some key questions discussed in the “DAAD Moving Target Digitalisation 2022: Increasing the Impact of Internationalisation in Higher Education” conference where The Guild members hosted a panel discussion on “Reframing mobility in and for transnational collaboration” on 2 December 2022. The Guild insight paper: Reimagining Research-led Education in a Digital Age
Higher education across Europe needs to cut red tape, engage with lifelong learning, and accelerate pedagogic innovation in a sustainable way to enable students to receive strong research-led education and develop relevant skills for the 21st century, the insight paper states, authored by Jo Angouri (University of Warwick) and supported by members of The Guild’s Strategic Leads on Education group.
Launch of the insight paper 'Reimagining Research-led Education in a Digital Age'
The paper’s interventions were launched on 4 June 2021 in a virtual debate with representatives from academia, the European Commission, and university associations. How to ensure higher education responds to the needs of the graduates in the 21st century was the key question discussed in event.
The Guild's seminar series
The launch of the paper marked the beginning of a series of debates hosted by The Guild's member universities about the educational transformations we need.
The first virtual seminar, hosted by the University of Warwick on 29 June 2021, explored lifelong learning in relation to transnational collaboration, with a special focus on the micro-credentials agenda and its potential for universities. Together with Aarhus University, The Guild organised the second seminar on 23 September 2021, zooming in on quality assurance systems. The third seminar took place on 29 November 2021, hosted by the University of Tartu, and focused on the role of universities in integrating international graduates into the local labour market.
The University of Glasgow hosted the fourth seminar on 2 March 2022, sharing insights on the university's experience with designing teaching and study spaces. The fifth and final seminar of the series took place on 3 June 2022. Hosted by the University of Tübingen, the event focused on the Bologna Process and how universities can manage the expectations regarding international orientation and local embeddedness.
