Launch event: The Twin Transition Century

The digital transition of society is happening. How can we drive it such that it successfully addresses the pressing and relevant challenges that our societies and economies are facing? How do we ensure that the digital transition reinforces, rather than undermines, the green transition?

Europe has to truly harness the fast-paced digital transition by utilising leading cutting-edge technologies that improve citizens’ lives and buttress Europe’s strategic autonomy. Further investment in research is needed to make Europe fit for future digital transitions and to ensure that this digital age is human-centred, complies with our fundamental values, and contributes to the green transition. But to do so, we must be clear on the building blocks of the digital transition, and on the knowledge and technologies that we need to guide successfully in relevant and important directions. In sum, we raise the question as to what research can enable the digital – and green – future we want.

Join this in-person conference to discuss the potential of the twin transition and how research can help ensure a sustainable future based on the findings of The Guild’s Insight Paper “The Twin Transition Century: The role of digital research for a successful Green Transition of Society?”.

Building on insights not only from his own research, but also from extensive discussions with researchers from across many disciplines within The Guild network, the author of this insight paper, Morten Dæhlen (Professor in Informatics at the University of Oslo), will present his work and share his recommendations for a successful digital transition that will not only make our lives better, but that will also reinforce the green transition. The event will be followed by a panel discussion where EU stakeholders and experts will share their insights on the topic.
