A Vision for Europe ? Research, Innovation and the Democratic Deficit

Times Higher Eduaction report from our event: "stem populism by embracing dissent, universities told"

How do universities need to respond to the growth of populism and the need for quick answers in national and European politics? Can research and innovation provide much-needed legitimacy for the EU? How can universities help overcome social and political alienation?

The Guild Policy Lab on ‘A Vision for Europe’ will be opened by Ms. Oda Helen Sletnes, Ambassador of Norway to the EU. It will bring together some of our leading scientists who have worked on the European Union, and who have analysed popular disaffection with Europe. They will examine the root causes of European populism, how European institutions can best engage with it, and how European programmes and initiatives in Research and Innovation can best respond to these issues.
