The Guild’s input for the Call for Evidence on the Action Plan for women in research, innovation and startups

The Guild has submitted its response to the European Commission’s Call for Evidence to the Action Plan for women in research, innovation and startups, highlighting the importance of including both gender and intersectional approaches in its design.

Gender and inclusion strategies are key drivers of research excellence, expand perspectives within research teams and improve the teams’ problem-solving capacities. Although there has been undeniable progress in the last years, many challenges remain regarding the effective implementation of intersectional gender policies. In our response to the Call for Evidence, we provide recommendations to ensure fair and equal gender participation and progression in the R&I ecosystem that also consider the diverse backgrounds of Europe’s universities.

We need the Action Plan to strengthen gender equality across Europe, and to fully embrace the significance of intersectional perspectives: this is not simply an issue of justice and values, it’s key to ensuring that the European Research Area is distinguished by excellence.
