Postponed to 2021: The Guild Ph.D. Summer School

Please note that The Guild Summer School has been postponed to 2021 as a precautionary measure against COVID-19.

More details to be announced in late 2020.

Following last year's inaugural Summer School, we are happy to announce that the second Guild Summer School will be hosted by the University of Glasgow from 5 to 11 July 2020.

The theme for the week will be research communication. Students will have an opportunity to reflect on how effective communication can boost the outreach of their research, making it more impactful and enhancing the potential for cooperation within and beyond academia. The sessions will cover:

  • Communicating research to diverse audiences/non-academic audiences
  • Communication within a multidisciplinary team
  • Communicating with external stakeholders
  • Communicating with the media
  • Communicating your expertise via your research profile

During these week-long seminars, students will engage with fellow colleagues from various disciplines and lecturers from Guild member universities. They will also have the opportunity to receive training in public speaking from specialised stakeholders and policymakers, followed by visits to some of the most beautiful Scottish landmarks.

We encourage Ph.D. candidates from all areas of study from The Guild member institutions to apply before 15 April 2020. Please note that applications must be submitted to your home institution which might introduce internal deadline for submission of applications.

For more information about the application and selection procedures, please visit the Summer School’s website here.
