Our Russian colleagues have displayed tremendous courage in articulating and signing the letter, and we demand that they are safe protected from any adverse repercussions under the universal principle of academic freedom.
We also support Inspireurope’s call on European governments and EU institutions to establish, as needed, support programmes for Russian scholars who may face consequences for speaking out about Russia’s invasion, without in any way deflecting from the unfailing support we owe to researchers and students from Ukraine.
See The Guild's proposals about concrete support for Ukrainian researchers and students here and our Secretary-General Jan Palmowski's opinion piece here.
