Re-framing innovation policy: The dynamics between the R and I

This high-level event focuses on the discourses and priorities of research and innovation policy and their wider links to Europe’s competitiveness in the coming decades. It will contribute to ongoing policy debates on how R&I policy needs to be reframed in the context of geopolitical tensions, a call for a stronger strategic autonomy and an opportunity to articulate new directions for the EU through the approaching elections. More specifically, the event will focus on the relation between research investments and innovation capacity in Europe. Are research and innovation policies and funding sufficiently connected in Europe, and do they address the right priorities? What distinguishes innovation policy from industrial policy, and how could universities further increase the innovation capacity of Europe?

The event brings together thought leaders from science, innovation and industry to debate how to optimise future investments for the benefit of European competitiveness and resilience and its role as a knowledge society.
