The Guild Three Years On

Annual Report 2016 - 2019

The Guild's annual report is now available as a digital publication. The document gives an overview of The Guild’s activities since it was founded in 2016.

On this occasion, Vincent Blondel, The Guild’s Chair and Rector of UCLouvain, together with the Secretary-General Jan Palmowski, reflect on the establishment of The Guild as one of the leading university networks in Europe.

"Today, The Guild represents half a million students and 65,000 researchers. Membership has enabled universities to intensify their European presence and their collaborations. This has not only enhanced the voice of our universities in the EU; it has also deepened the discussion and enagement amongst our academic communities about European concerns relevant for universities."

- Vincent Blondel

"This success has been the result of the continued active and enthusiastic participation of our academic and administrative colleagues in our member universities, whose advice and input shapes our positions."

- Jan Palmowski.

Additionally, the report showcases The Guild’s engagement with key policy areas as well as its collaborative working groups on topics such as Open Science, Innovation and the Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities.

It concludes by looking forward at some of the challenges lying ahead:

“The Guild will continue to argue that research and education not only sustain economic growth, they help us navigate change and the uncertainty it generates. Universities and policymakers together must find new ways to communicate how legitimate knowledge is produced and used, and how it can build trust, which is the basis for an inclusive public sphere.”
