In response to the pandemic outbreak, the European Commission has mobilised over € 160 million to fund research and innovation calls. Being at the forefront of the fight against Covid-19, projects comprising universities, including several members of The Guild, have been working on different aspects of the pandemic.
Over the past week, it has become clear that Africa is particularly vulnerable to the spread of COVID-19, and its economic consequences. Africa’s universities have been at the forefront of fighting the virus on their continent. Members of the African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA), with which The Guild has entered a close partnership, have been engaging in research to understand the virus within the local context and to support the search for a vaccine.
As living in times of the pandemic is ‘the new normal’, researchers have increasingly turned to examining how it has affected our daily lives.
As universities across Europe move to online teaching at record speed, a number of activities are being put in place at Guild member universities to support students and staff members navigate this extraordinary situation.
